Grand South Africa Tour

This really is the ‘highlights’ tour of South Africa, a 15 day tour between Johannesburg and Cape Town, including: an open vehicle game drive in Kruger National Park; Swaziland; a visit to a traditional Zulu village; the Garden Route; Oudtshoorn, famous for the Cango Caves and ostrich farms. The ultimate tour of South Africa with great scenery, exciting wildlife and ethnic diversity. Small, personal groups with expert guides. Hotels used are typically of a good 4-star standard throughout, unlike many escorted tours which use 3-star touring hotels.

Day 1

Fly UK To Johannesburg

Overnight flight from the UK to Johannesburg.

Days 2-3

The Panorama Route

Over night in Johannesburg and the next morning travel to the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ – Mpumalanga – via the magnificent Panorama Route. Time and weather permitting, stop at God’s Window and the Mac Mac Falls. Late afternoon arrival at your hotel.

Day 4

The Kruger National Park

Early this morning you will depart on an open vehicle safari through the Kruger National Park. The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. Optional evening safari.

Day 5

The Royal Kingdom Of Swaziland

After breakfast, travel to the Royal Kingdom of Swaziland. This tiny mountainous kingdom is filled with bygone African traditions and culture and offers beautiful scenery and attractions. After spending some time at the Mbabane craft markets, arrive at your hotel located in the beautiful Ezulwini Valley.

Day 6

Big Bend To KwaZulu Natal

Continue via Big Bend into KwaZulu Natal. Arrive at your hotel in the afternoon, in time to embark on an afternoon scenic drive up the Ubombo Mountains, offering views over Lake Jozini. The drive will be combined with a visit to a local and authentic Zulu homestead for a glimpse into Zulu life in today’s world.

Day 7

Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve

Today you will transfer to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve for a full day of game viewing, and it was here that the white rhino was saved from extinction.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 8

The Elephant Coast To St Lucia

Continue the journey along the Elephant Coast to St Lucia, at the southern extremity of the Simangaliso Wetland Park – a World Heritage Site. Here you embark on an estuarine boat trip which provides an opportunity to view crocodiles, hippo and numerous bird species. Continue to Durban for an overnight stay.

Day 9

Durban City Tour

This morning you will embark on a brief Durban City Tour where you will spend the morning discovering the cultural and historical contrasts of the city, before your flight to Port Elizabeth.

On arrival at Port Elizabeth Airport, transfer to your hotel.

Day 10

Tsitsikamma National Park

Depart Port Elizabeth and travel via the coastline to the beautiful Tsitsikamma National Park, described as the ‘garden of the Garden Route’.

Enjoy a walk along the suspension bridge across the Storms River mouth gorge which offers visitors incredible views and photo opportunities. Continue to Plettenberg Bay for dinner and overnight.

Day 11

Whale & Dolphin Experience

After breakfast, get up-close-and-personal with nature at the Knysna Elephant Park. After lunch (own account) visit Birds of Eden – the largest free-flight bird aviary in the world. Time and weather permitting you have the option of embarking on a Whale & Dolphin boat experience (own account) before returning to the lodge.

Day 12

Knysna & Oudtshoorn

Proceed to the lagoon side town of Knysna, enjoying some time at leisure before embarking on an adventurous cruise to the Knysna Heads (weather permitting). On return to the mainland, continue to Oudtshoorn – the ‘feather capital’ of the world due to its large ostrich industry. Overnight in Oudtshoorn.

Day 13

Cango Caves & Barrydale

Enjoy a morning tour of the Cango Caves and then travel via Route 62 to Barrydale for lunch (own account), arriving in Cape Town around 18h00, for a 3 night stay.

Day 14

Cape Point & Peninsula Tour

Whilst in Cape Town take a full day Cape Point and Peninsula Tour (included).

Day 15

Cape Winelands Tour

Whilst in Cape Town take a full day Cape Winelands Tour (included).

Day 16

Cape Town City Tour

Morning collection from the hotel for a City Tour – a geographical and cultural extravaganza showing you Cape Town from its historical beginnings to the dazzling modern shopping malls of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Your tour ends with drop-off at Cape Town International Airport in time for your return overnight flight back to the UK.
