Enter the Great Untamed Regions of Africa
At Footsteps Across the Delta you enter one of the great untamed regions of Africa, the spectacular Okavango Delta, and experience the astonishing contrasts created when the mighty Okavango River flows into the arid Kalahari Desert. The result is a variety of habitats, riverine forest, palm islands, permanent swamps and dry sandveld all with an unparalleled wealth of animal diversity.
This program maintains the elegance and eccentricity of the original ‘under canvas African safari’. The emphasis on your stay at Footsteps is on guided walks where you have the time to focus on learning about tracking wildlife and understanding animal movement, patterns and behaviour, as well as more in depth information on trees, grasses and the finer details. Being on foot or in a mokoro (traditional canoe) instead of in a vehicle affords this unique perspective.
Accommodation
The Footsteps Across the Delta base is a comfortable private camp which accommodates a maximum of 6 guests in three specially designed twin bedded, insect proof tents with sewn-in floors. Each tent has its own bucket shower and bush toilet, and even a daily laundry service. The ‘bush kitchen’ run by our chef, prepares menus to whet all appetites.
Activities
Walking in the Delta’s wilderness is the highlight of a ‘true safari’ experience. No special training is required, as distances travelled are resemblant of early days, where the emphasis is on exploration and discovery – each morning tracking fresh spoor to reveal the nights events. Other possible activities include game-drives, mokoro trips or fishing, which vary throughout the year. The Footsteps walking experience combines well with the luxuries offered by other camps.
Inclusions
Your stay will be on a fully inclusive basis, this means that the nightly rate covers: all meals; accommodation; selected (local brand) beverages; game activities and associated park/concession fees led by professional guides; laundry; emergency evacuation insurance (to nearest medical facility).
Please Note
The camp is open 01st March through to 30th November only. Minimum age is 16 yrs on all Footsteps Across the Delta walking safaris, however the Young Explorer’s family safaris are an option for those with younger children wishing to enjoy the delta - please ask for details.
