Cape Town Garden Route & Safari

Enjoy the attractions of Cape Town, one of the world's most spectacular cities; tour the Winelands & Garden Route; and end your holiday on Safari, the highlight of many a trip to Africa. South Africa is an easy country to drive in, with relatively little traffic. Most of the drives on this itinerary are 2-3 hours, with the longest being approximately 4 hours.

What makes this such a popular itinerary is the contrasts. Cape Town is one of the most exciting cities in the world, yet within an hours drive or so of the Cape Winelands. The Garden Route centres around Wilderness, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay & the Klein (little) Karoo & Oudtshoorn. Finally you have a variety of safari options to choose from, all giving you access to the thrill of big game viewing in this non-malarial area of South Africa.

Day 1

Fly Heathrow To Cape Town

Days 2-4

Discover Vibrant Cape Town

Enjoy the attractions of one of the world’s most spectacular cities, including Table Mountain; the V&A Waterfront; Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens; the Cape of Good Hope; Robben Island, and many more. Cape Town is also a centre for adventure, exciting cuisine, shopping and some serious nightlife.

Days 5-6

Stellenbosch & The Winelands

An hours drive this morning will bring you to the heart of the winelands. Stellenbosch is the second oldest town in South Africa and thecentre of the largest and most varied wine route.

During your 2-night stay in this historic town enjoy any one of the 75 restaurants in the town or head to a wine estate for a cellar tour and tasting.

Days 7-8

Klein Karoo & Oudtshoorn

Head east along the scenic ‘Route 62’ today to the heart of the Klein Karoo and Oudtshoorn, the Ostrich capital of South Africa, for a further 2-night stay.

From here you can visit the Cango Caves, an Ostrich farm or drive over one of the most spectacular mountain passes in Africa,the Swartberg Pass, to the delightful Karoo town of Prince Albert–not for the fainthearted!

Days 9-11

The Crags And Nature’s Valley

An enjoyable 4-hour drive will take you to one of the most beautiful areas of the Garden Route, The Crags and Nature’s Valley, for your 3-night stay.

The nearby town of Plettenberg Bay has great swimming beaches, Tsitsikamma National Park and Storm’s River Mouth are close by, or just relax and soak up the peace and quiet of this stunning area.

Days 12-13

Eastern Cape Safari

Drive through the Tsitsikamma Forest and beyond Port Elizabeth to the Eastern Cape. From here you have a variety of game viewing and safari options to choose from. Private game reserves offer the most exclusive and luxurious option, in an authentic safari environment; country houses and retreats, or a guest house style establishment are more affordable options giving you total flexibility.

Day 14

Fly Johannesburg To Heathrow

Drop your car at Port Elizabeth airport intime for your overnight flight to London Heathrow,via Johannesburg.
