Woodbury Lodge & Woodbury Tented Camp

Woodbury Lodge, situated on the beautiful Amakhala Game Reserve, is spectacularly set against a cliff above the Bushman’s River valley, with genuinely stunning views. Guests are accommodated in six comfortably appointed stone-and-thatch lodges, each with a private patio and magnificent view of the reserve.

All the lodges have air conditioning, a spacious en suite bathroom, tea & coffee station as well as a minibar fridge. The seclusion of the lodges enables you to enjoy the unique and breathtaking views while relaxing and enjoying the sounds of the African Bush. Guests are often thrilled by the late afternoon sighting of the elephant herd passing by. The lodge includes a pleasant central dining room, lounge and bar area, outside BBQ area and swimming pool with a deck that takes full advantage of the view. Woodbury Lodge includes two daily activities. Guests have a choice of a morning game drive, guided walk, river cruise or afternoon into early evening game drive.

A rustic camp for those looking for a very traditional tented safari experience, Woodbury Tented Camp is also elevated offering views across the open bush. The seven tents are simply but comfortably furnished. They include an en-suite bathroom with a shower, basin and an enclosed toilet outside the tent. There are fans, hairdryers and tea and coffee facilities. This is a child friendly camp with babysitting services available (additional charge). The centre of the camp is a thatched and canvas airy entertainment area with a deck, small lounge and dining area serving traditional meals. Woodbury Tented Camp includes two safari activities daily from game drives in the morning or afternoon, guided walks or a river cruise.

The 7,500 hectare Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa preserves a complex and diverse ecosystem, providing habitat for over 60 mammal species and 250 bird species. The Bushman’s River winds its way through the reserve and the dramatic and ever changing topography of Amakhala Game Reserve is host to an abundant tapestry of sights and sounds - you never know what you might see around the next turn of the land-rover track. The majestic lion, herds of elephant, buffalo and giraffe, cheetah and endangered white and black rhino make up the big game component. Amakhala Game Reserve is also home to substantial herds of plains game species including zebra, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, oryx and eland to name but a few.
