VICTORIA FALLS

BY MOLLY WILLIAMS

I honestly did not think Victoria Falls would appeal to me, but WOW, I could not have been more wrong! What a beautiful part of Zimbabwe; I would absolutely love to return!

You always feel so welcome when there are personal touches to your room when you arrive, which really makes a difference to your holiday, and especially after a long flight from the UK! At The Elephant Camp, there was a welcome letter, and at Old Drift Lodge, they present the towels in animal shapes, which is so lovely, seeing as you are likely to see these animals when in the national parks. The service in all properties I experienced was outstanding, everyone went above & beyond to make my stay perfect, and I know they will do that for you too!

What is there to do at Victoria Falls? There is an endless list of activities for everyone! This is not only a perfect destination for adrenaline junkies but also those who are wanting to learn about the falls, as well as the town itself.

The tour of Victoria Falls was such an amazing experience. I could not believe how vast the falls are; it really is something that words cannot do justice. You are taken all along the falls, which is a stunning walk, but be sure to pick up a poncho when you arrive at the park entry as you do get soaking wet from all the spray! I did not expect to be so much spray, so before I knew it, I was completely soaked through – not my best look!

Can you believe that people bungee jump from this bridge? Neither can I! 111 meters, with freefalling to the mighty Zambezi! I have not yet built up the courage to do this, but maybe on my next visit! I did however do a Canopy Tour, which involves ziplining over the gorges, which is a really amazing way to see Victoria Falls from another angle! Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures, as I was too worried about dropping my phone! I was very nervous, as I am no good with heights, but it is definitely worth doing, trust me!

Unfortunately, I did not have time to do the Village Tour, as this is something that I would have loved to experience! I got chatting to a family at The Elephant Camp; two adults, and two teenagers. I have to say, I expected the teenagers not to have enjoyed it, but they explained how informative and moving it was, so it is really something to do whilst in this beautiful part of the world! The Zimbabweans live such different lives to us in the UK, therefore it is great to get more of an understanding, and see first-hand how they live, and go about day-to-day life.

Finally, they say there is no better sunset than in Africa. They are not wrong. I said I would take less photos of the sunsets, because I have so many, but how can you not. They are beautiful; but unfortunately, the camera again just does not do it justice, which just means you will have to go & experience it for yourself! This picture was taken where we stopped for well-deserved sundowners, which must be one of the best spots in the Zambezi National Park!
