Lying 240km south of the main island Mahé, Desroches is one of the coral Amirantes islands, approximately 6km long and 1km wide, with 14km of coastline, and reached by a short daily flight from Mahé. Once here, the guests pretty much have the island to themselves. You can walk or cycle the many paths on the island, visiting the staff villages and research centres, or just heading for a deserted stretch of beach where a delicious picnic will be waiting for you.

The Dining Experience
The main restaurant is open-air whenever possible, with tables arranged around the pool, on the beach, or wherever takes your fancy, and there is a pleasant indoor dining area for the those rare inclement days. The island grows many of their own vegetables and herbs, so fresh produce is readily available. The team can also arrange romantic picnics and special dining around the island, and in-villa dining is also available. L'Amirante Bar is a pleasant place to enjoy a refreshing cocktail, aperitif, or digestif at any time of the day, with the beach just a few meteres away.
Spa, Conservation & Activities
Desroches has an excellent watersport centre offering good snorkelling, scuba diving and top class fishing. The island's PADI dive and watersport centre provides snorkelling and diving tuition. The island boasts a choice of fourteen classified dive sites including the famous Canyon and Desroches drop. Alternatively try the kayaks and canoes and paddle within the protected lagoons, or try your hand at windsurfing. All great fun for the whole family! The cooler hours of the evening offer the opportunity for a game of tennis. Excursions to the neighbouring Amirantes Islands are also available.
The interior of the island is interwoven with coconut plantations, meandering tracks and walks. This is a truly fascinating tropical island full of wonderful natural suprises around every corner, not to mention the ponderous giant tortoises that you will meet during your stay. As well as the outdoor interests, the island's extensive library and reading area provides a subtle tropical hideaway in which to catch up on the history of the Island.
Desroches is sophisticated, offering an understated luxury, with a very laid back vibe permeating everything they do, but the quality is still verey much in evidence. The island is stunning, and exclusive to the guests of the island, a genuine tropical island retreat.
