Xugana Island Lodge is situated on a private concession within Botswana’s pristine Okavango Delta. The lodge is set on the fringe of an island, shaded by Ebony and African Mangosteen trees, overlooking the permanent water of the Xaguna Lagoon. The friendly lounge, bar and dining areas are under a canopy of open sided thatch, with wikka woven furnishing and soft suede cushions. Social moments and meals are enjoyed out on the wide decking and even the open boma overlooks the water. You can enjoy your midday siesta at the relaxing swimming pool, which is tucked into the mature gardens in the center of the island. The Xugana Lagoon is one of the most spectacular permanent water sites in the Okavango and you will be privileged to explore it on motorboats or mokoro’s (traditional canoes). You can also do guided walks on the surrounding islands in the concession, giving you a classic Delta safari experience. Birding in this area is outstanding, and fishing for bream and tiger fish are also popular activities.
The 8 reed and thatch chalets are constructed on raised platforms, and spread out along the edge of the lagoon. The twin or king beds are enveloped with mosquito netting and the practical en-suite bathrooms offer showers, single hand wash basins and quality amenities. A wide canvas flap rolls neatly away to open the rooms onto the private viewing decks.
Xugana Island Lodge is a pure water paradise and gives you the chance to experience a true Okavango Delta safari. All activities are conducted by experienced professional guides. Explore the crystal-clear waterways by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) or motorboat, and enjoy the magnificent variety of bird, plant and reptile species found in the area. Birding is absolutely spectacular, especially during the summer months when the migrant birds come to breed. Your experienced guide will also take you on a guided nature walk on surrounding islands in the concession, giving you the chance to experience nature up close and personal. Fishing for bream and tiger fish is also offered as an activity at the lodge. Xugana Island Lodge is a water-based camp and game drive activities, using safari vehicles, are not possible.
