THE OKAVANGO DELTA HOLIDAYS
The Okavango Delta is one of the most famous wilderness destinations in the world. It encompasses everything that is wild africa. The peaceful scenery of the delta, untouched by human hand, is a wonder deep within the Kalahari basin - a true oasis within a desert. Within a country that is 80% arid, the Okavango is a vital source of life. Getting its waters from rain failing in central Africa over 1000km away, it sustains a huge diversity of wildlife.
One of the reasons that the Okavango has become one the most sought after wilderness destination in the world, is the amazing big game viewing. The Wildlife in Okavango is supported in high concentrations both throughout the year and on a seasonal basis. During the wet seasons the larger mammals move out of the delta into the lush grazing that surround it, but as this grazing begins to thin out in the winter, they return once again. From hippos, water birds and water-adapted antelope in the depths of the marsh to elephants, giraffe, lions, cheetahs on dry island outposts, you will not get a better opportunity to see so many amazing species on a single trip.
The ecosystem of the Okavango Delta is amazing. The diversity on show is some of the richest available in Africa. Botswana's commitment to conservation means that it is possible to enjoy over 1,000 plant species, over 400 bird species, and some of the most amazing animals.
A great example of this is the White Rhino. This particularly rare animal had been completely wiped out from this part of Africa. In 2001, they were reintroduced and are now breeding.
