Ras Kutani is set on a crescent of white sandy beach, within a virgin coastal forest, washed by the gentle surf of the temperate Indian Ocean, 25km south of Dar es Salaam. Relaxation is the keynote to Ras Kutani, a perfect hideaway, far from the madding crowd, and a perfect way to relax after a safari. The lodge is flanked by a fresh water lagoon abutting onto a coastal forest, which spills to the edge of the unspoilt and undeveloped beach.
Accommodation is in 9 spacious and charming cottages constructed of natural, local materials and four exclusive hillside suites with private plunge pools, and the family house, all of which blend with the wonderful surroundings. Each cottage has its own en suite bathroom and large veranda with views of the azure ocean. The chefs pride themselves on preparing the fresh fruit of the ocean fare from the readily available local fish and crustacean. In the heart of the retreat lies the welcoming bar and open air lounge, as well as the expansive restaurant terrace. Or, laze on the sunloungers by the swimming pool or simply enjoy the unspoilt beach.
Complimentary snorkelling equipment is available, kayaks and boogie boards are also available for guests seeking more physical exercise. Perfect for a morning walk, guests can discover the coastal forest behind the camp. Seasonally each year green turtles return to the sheltered beaches of Ras Kutani to nest, and from July to October you may have the chance to witness the awe inspiring humpback whales which migrate past Ras Kutani.
