Bird Island is the antidote to homogenous, corporate hotels and resorts. This is all about the destination, conservation and sustainability. There is no outdoor lighting (battery-free torches are provided), no air-conditioning, no fridges or TVs in the rooms. The lodge is simple, but comfortable, the food is wholesome, not 'gastronomique'. However, the nature, the beaches and the ocean are amazing. Snorkelling, kayaking, deep sea fishing and nature walks/boat trips are all available. 60 miles from Mahé, reached by daily flights.
Bird Island offers a variety of activities to guests, educating its visitors about their natural surroundings, encounters with 100 year old tortoises, turtles, dolphins and other amazing marine life; paddling across the island's shores and taking in the mesmerising scenery, or the choice of just unwinding on the powder soft beaches. The island is yours to enjoy!
24 simple but comfortable individual chalets, nestled among the remaining coconut palms of the island's old plantation. The chalets are dotted along the western coast of the island, overlooking the natural parkland and on, to the turquoise clear waters. Simplicity is the keyword at Bird Island Lodge, far removed from your standard over-priced and over-pampered luxury hotel. Just plenty of birds, turtles and heart-stoppingly beautiful beaches. Room Amenities - Spacious verandah; King sized bed (mosquito netting optional); Room fan; 2 sofas which double as 2 single beds; Large shower (solar heated); Hairdryer (available from reception); Complimentary WIFI.
Our Opinion - This isn't for everyone, but if you are happy to share your space with the natural world, and aren't expecting too many creature comforts, then you will love it.
