GOVERNORS MAIN CAMP
The setting is magical, originally reserved, exclusively, for Kenya’s colonial Governors. Governors’ Camp nestles in the forest along the banks of the Mara River, it’s waters teeming with bird-life, hippo and crocodile, in the heart of the Masai Mara Reserve. Some of the 37 tents line the riverbank, tucked into the forest they enjoy uninterrupted views over the Mara River, others have views across the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara. Everything is under canvas, all tents have ensuite bathrooms with hot and cold running water and flushing toilets. There is a bar tent with deck overlooking the Mara River and dinning tent with views over the plains.
LITTLE GOVERNORS CAMP
Little Governors is a more intimate camp, with 17 luxury en-suite tents tucked around a large watering hole that teems with both birds and wildlife. The camp is approached by a boat ride across the Mara River, then an escorted walk through the riverine forest, and the camp is quiet and undisturbed. The guest tents at Little Governors are comfortable and tasteful. Each has an ensuite bathroom, hot running water and a wooden deck with large verandah for guests to enjoy the constant game activity that takes place around the watering hole. In keeping with safari tradition lighting is by gas and kerosene lanterns, or by candlelight. All Governors’ properties are unfenced, so guests may need to make way for elephants which sometimes visit the camp at lunch time.
GOVERNORS IL MORAN CAMP
The camp for those who want that extra bit of luxury. Governors’ IL Moran Camp is small and intimate, with added touches that make this a top of the range safari. IL Moran is widely regarded as one of the premier camps in the Masai Mara. Hidden under ancient trees, deep in the forest, there are just 10 tents. They line the winding banks of the Mara River. Game drives and game walks are included in the rate and complimentary wine is served with dinner. The camp is situated along the banks of the Mara River, right in the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, with great game viewing right on your doorstep.
GOVERNORS PRIVATE CAMP
Private Camp can either be booked by one family or group at a time, so it’s yours to enjoy, as the name suggests, in private. Up to 16 people can experience and enjoy, for themselves, a beautiful bend of the Mara River.
Our Opinion - One of the very first commercial safari operations in Kenya, the Governors Camps enjoy a location that is second to none, in the heart of the Masai Mara.
