20 Degrés Sud is a small boutique Relais & Chateaux hotel located on the north west coast of Mauritius, in a lovely setting between Grand Baie and Pointe aux Canonniers, on a turquoise lagoon facing the islands to the north - Le Coin de Mire, Ile Ronde and Ile Plate. A complimentary water taxi service is offered taking passengers to from Grand Baie, allowing guests the chance to 'eat out' in the evenings should they so choose, and to enjoy some shopping during the day. Along the water's edge innovative shelters and small coconut groves make for a 'wind-free' day in the sun
ROOMS & SUITES
Each of the 36 rooms and suites look onto the pretty coconut grove facing the sea and have been individually designed. The rooms have been decorated using specially selected furnishings and antiques, creating a personal 'home from home' atmosphere with a distinct French elegance flair. The four Austral Suites are equipped with a private plunge pool, and for ultimate luxury, the ground floor suites have a large Jacuzzi each. These suites have terraces less than two metres from the water and the breathtaking views of the blue sea create an exceptional setting.
LEISURE & ACTIVITIES
Activities at 20 Degrés Sud include a variety of watersports, boat excursions as well as big game fishing, which can be arranged nearby. Alternatively, guests can sit back and relax in the hotel's own mini spa, with treatments ranging from a hot stone massage to a mother of pearl body scrub. There are two small freshwater swimming pools, one of which is heated to 26°. Facilities also included a library, board games, billiard table and unlimited WiFi. For more active guests there is a bicycle hire and boathouse that provides watersports equipment and PADI dive centre.
FOOD & DRINK
The restaurant at 20 Degrés Sud is located on the waters edge, serving the finest of Mauritian local produce. A fabulously romantic evening can be spent on the hotel's beautifully restored salon boat, 'M/S Lady Lisbeth' dining whilst cruising around the beautiful bay. Alternatively, it is possible to dine in The Governer's House, an old ruin, now a listed building. This little restaurant has just a few tables and a magical, intimate setting on a beach on a separate island, and guests are taken there by the hotel's catamaran. Fresh fish or, if you prefer, a six-course lobster menu (on request).
Our Opinion - 20 Degrés Sud Hotel is quite unique for Mauritius, i.e. a quality, SMALL hotel, offering excellent personal service, delicious food and a wide choice of excursions and water sports. Not an out-and-out beach hotel. Children 12+.
