BARTHOLOMEUS KLIP
ELANDSBERG NATURE RESERVE > CAPE WINELANDS > SOUTH AFRICA
4 BEDROOMS, 1 SUITE & 2 SELF-CATERING/CATERED HOUSES
Surrounded by mountains, farmland and the large Elandsberg Nature Reserve, Bartholomeus Klip is only an hour away from Cape Town. Nestled in the Riebeek Valley, Bartholomeus Klip is located on a working sheep and wheat farm. The exceptionally friendly and courteous staff take pride in welcoming you to the Victorian farmhouse. TGCSA 4-Star Guest House.
ROOMS & SUITES
Originally the farm managers house, there are only 4 rooms in the Victorian style main house and one suite outside, so there are a maximum of ten guests staying at any one time, giving the house that extra homely feel. The rooms are crisp and elegant, in keeping with the Victorian architecture but modern in style. They also offer two self-catering houses that are perfect for groups travelling together or families with children, each with their own garden, swimming pool and shady verandah. Meals can be delivered to the door or guests can make their way to the restaurant.
FOOD & DRINK
Bartholomeus Klip offers an array of eating options, with the conservatory feeling light and airy for lavish brunches, and lit by candlelight for a romantic gourmet four-course dinner. The verandah is the perfect setting for their speciality high tea, with beautiful vistas over the dam and mountains in the backdrop. Occasionally, the resident chef sets up the ‘Smoke & Fire Pop Up Restaurant’ in improvised locations around the farm. An informal feast, the 6 courses have bold flavours using local and foraged ingredients, and definitely offers a unique dining experience.
LEISURE & ACTIVITIES
Bartholomeus Klip’s location in the Elandsberg Nature Reserve makes it the perfect base to explore the indiegnous Fynbos ecosystem and working farm on the morning and evening nature drives, by mountain bike or on foot. With over 850 plant species and 120 bird species you will never run out of things to see. The reserve has no dangerous game, which makes it ideal to explore on your own. The dam offers activities such as fresh-water fishing, canoeing, kayaking or even a refreshing leisurely swim. The Quagga project is a fascinating look into what the Western Cape fauna looked like in days gone by and what is being done to reintroduce the species into the ecosystem.
