Between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown, in the heart of the Eastern Cape’s beautiful malaria-free landscape, Pumba Private Game Reserve is a Big Five game reserve, home to the endangered and majestic White Lion, and two exclusive safari lodges.
The split level dining and lounge area of the luxurious Pumba Water Lodge are warmed by a central fireplace and open out to large wooden decks and an inviting pool with stairs leading down to the jetty and the peaceful Lake Kariega. The 12 stone-walled, thatched waterfront chalets are all air-conditioned with under-floor heating, telephone, mini-bar and tea/coffee stations. The en-suite bathrooms offer free-standing baths, double basins, bathrobes and outdoor showers, while the lounge and bedroom share a crackling fireplace and open out to a private timber deck and plunge pool overlooking the lake.
The main areas of Pumba Msenge Lodge include a bush bar, a wellness centre and a mini gym. The lounge and restaurant are warmed by an ornate fireplace and open out to the deck and pool. There are 11 secluded thatched chalets which are completely enclosed in glass, making the most of the tranquil bush setting, they have private viewing decks overlooking a small waterhole with extensive views of the vast floodplains and highlands beyond. Each chalet is air-conditioned with a mini-bar, fireplace, ceiling fan, electronic safe, telephone and private dressing room. The en-suite bathrooms have outdoor showers and the spacious lounge areas open out to the deck and the private plunge pool.
